Crash Landing On You Episode 1 Recap

So I’ve decided to try something new. I will be writing weekly episode recaps about Crash Landing on You. Recaps are typically uninspiring. If I want an episode play-by-play, I can watch the show. Once before I tried to write one like that, but I deleted it before I even posted it. So I’m changing the style of the recap. There may be spoilers, but just know I will be writing to my heart’s content.

In the Beginning…

The very beginning lays a foundation for the series. I attempted to watch the series with my husband, but he was immediately turned off by the female lead’s haughty personality (which reminds me of Cheon Song Yi from My Love From Another Star). I’m also nervous about watching this drama since I was disappointed with the ending (and the direction of the story line) of Memories of Alhambra earlier this year.

Five Big Things that Happened this Episode

  1. Se Ri is chosen as heir.
  2. She tests her new apparel line and ends up in the DMZ.
  3. Se Ri gets caught by a soldier.
  4. Her brother’s money is stolen and he’s searching for the criminal.
  5. The artifact hunters were killed.

1. The Heir

Se Ri’s dad gets release on probation from prison. He requests Se Ri to be present at the family dinner. At the dinner, the brothers and their wives bicker about the mistakes each brother have made. Se Ri arrives late and she is chosen as the heir despite having two older brothers. The brothers and their wives aren’t happy with the news either.

2. Seri’s Crash Landing

Before taking on more responsibilities with her father’s company, Se Ri tests out new apparel by paragliding in them herself (oppose to hiring someone else to do it). While mid-air, a tornado comes out of nowhere… I’m from Kansas, tornadoes be like that sometimes:

Anyways, Se Ri ends up crash landing in the DMZ, aka the Demilitarized Zone located between North and South Korea.

3. Discovered by North Korea Soldier

Hanging from a tree, she is discovered by a North Korean solder from company 5, Captain Ri is what I will refer to him as. Captain Ri decides to do the right thing and decides to take her in to the Security State Department. She Runs away. Captain Ri tells her where to go to return to the south, but she ends up in North Korea–She’s able to get past the fence due to the damage caused by the tornado.

4. Se Ri’s Brother’s Drama

Meanwhile on the other side of the DMZ, a different story line is brewing. Se Ri’s brother, Se Hyeong, searches for a man that stole his money. Se Hyeong gets ridiculed by the eldest brother and his wife for looking over a billion dollars to a scammer. The brother is determined to find the thief and hopefully have his money returned.

5. The Artifact Hunters

Three artifact hunters get caught by South Korean soldiers. The North Korean solders, Company 5 soldiers to be exact, take them into state security. Captain Ri suggests that they get proper punishment. Well, Cho Cheol Gang (don’t ask me what his title is) hired the hunters and asked them where they hid the artifacts. They told him. But while being transported, the car driving hunters where rammed by military trucks with metal attachments of death. And they died. Hmm…I wonder who set that up.

Characters

We are briefly introduced to the characters.

As previously stated, Se Ri has a haughty personality. She creates drama, but is typically good at making decisions–maybe just business decisions. Captain Ri is a rule-follower. He likes everything ‘by the book.’ You can see this when he is having a discussion with Cho Cheol Gang.

Speaking of which, What is this guy up to? Seems like he is untrustworthy, he says one thing to Captain Ri’s face and then does something different. He did the same thing to the grave robbers.

Then there is the drama at Yoon household (Se Ri’s family). Se Ri has obviously disowned her family, but it is easy to see why. Her two brothers and their wives just bicker at each other.

As for other characters, we see a glimpse them but no one who seems to stick out at this point in the story.

Production

I really like some of the shots that were taken. Pictures speak louder than words, so observe.

Afterthought

I’m nervous to watch this drama after the disappointment with Memoirs of Alhambra. The story is good so far, so I’m hoping that it stays that way.

Also I don’t like watching dramas that are on air because I like to binge watch dramas. Watching something that I have to wait in order to see the next episode is so agonizing. I want to stream it all!

Drama to Life

I feel a bit odd writing this here because there are still so many episodes that I have yet to see. Nevertheless, here are some things:

Culture
Experience: Paragliding
Travel
