Run On Episode 1-4 Recap

Run On is a new Korean drama on Netflix created with JTBC. The Episodes are released weekly. Since last time when I did Crashing Landing on You, where I attempted to do weekly episodes, was a bit of a challenge. I started watching this drama when there were already four episodes on Netflix. I decided that I will recap/review Run On in chunks of 4 episodes.

So What Happened?

Character Introductions

In the first few episodes, Ki Seon Gyeong (Im Si Wan) and his family are introduced. He is a track star on the Korean national team. His father, Ki Jung Do (Park Yeong Gyu), is an assembly man who is running an election compaign. His mother, Yook Ji Woo (Cha Hwa Yeon), is a famous actress. Lastly, his sister, Ki Eun Bi (Ryu Abel), who is also a famous professional golfer. Seon Gyeong is basically refer to in the general public as one of his family member’s son or brother and is not quite as famous as the others. He has a close relationship with his sister, filial relationship with his mother, and a tumultuous relationship with his dad.

Our female lead is Oh Mi Joo (Shin Se-Kyung). She works as a translator/interpreter. We don’t know much about her background. We do know she has had crappy boyfriends and that she lives with her best friend, CEO Park May (Lee Bong Ryun).

At the end of the first episode, our two leads had “met” four times. They call their meetings “fated.” She becomes his interpreter for interviews by the press. At a later time, Seon Gyeon and Mi Joo go drinking. Seon Gyeong becomes drunk and at the end of the second episode, we have a first kiss between the leads.

Track Team Drama

An incident on the National Track Team occurs with Seon Gyeon’s friend, Woo Sik (Lee Jeong Ha). Woo Sik ends up in the hospital and Seon Gyeong seeks revenge; assaults some other teammates.

After the incident, he asked his dad to allow him to receive a punishment for his behavior towards the other track members. His dad ignores the request.

Instead, his dad gives a monetary bribe to Mi Joo. He requests that she reports to him what his son is up to. Unsure how to react, she takes the money. At the end of episode four, Seon Gyeong confronts her about it.

Lastly at the track team’s off-season training in Jeju Island, Seon Gyeon has his interviews and Mi Joo interprets for him. During a practice race, Seon Gyeon decides not to run. He them confess to reporters that he beat up the other members of the track. Woo Sik is interviewed, but the information is concealed.

Music

I find the music in this drama kind of dreamy, light modern jazz, and a bit catchy.

Scenes

One of my Favorite parts is when he decides not to run. He realized that he is one thing in life he can control.

Other favorites include:

  • Driving a couple driving scenes
  • Him asking her to be his fake girlfriend
  • Her defending him in a interview

Quotes

“Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.” –Mi Joo quoted this from a movie. I discovered that it’s from Batman Begins, 2005.
