Crazy Beautiful You Movie Review

Crazy Beautiful You is a 2015 Philippine romantic comedy movie. I was browsing through Netflix when I decided to watch it.

Genre: Romantic comedy, drama
Length: 1h55m
Directed by: Mae Cruz-Alviar
Produced by: Chari Santos-Concio and Malov N. Santos

Summary

Jackie, a rebellious teen, gets in trouble (again). After her parents discuss it, her mom signs her up to help volunteer for a medical mission. She’s supervised by Kiko, whom she eventually falls in love with him.

Review

I stumbled upon this movie when I didn’t feel like committing to a series, but I was still in the mood for kilig. The movie fit my needs so well.

Characters

Story

The theme of this movie is easy to pinpoint. I think it’s balance. Jackie expresses selfishness, what it’s like when someone only thinks of themselves. Kiko expresses selflessness, what it’s like when you give all yourself to others. At the end, we see both Jackie and Kiko understand what it means to balance those.

Jackie gets in trouble and her parents decide it would be good for her to participate in her mom’s medical mission. While on the medical mission, Jackie is supervised and guided by Kiko. She learns of his selfishness which teaches her that there’s more important things than oneself. But at the same time, she teaches him that you can’t give everything away.

Music

There was really only one song in this movie. The song is “Nothing’s going to Stop Us Now” by Starship.

Quotes

“We never ask for money. We work hard for it.”-Kiko

“Everyone who suffers asks why they suffer.”-Kiko

” What will your anger achieve? Nothing. It’s just a waste of time. I can’t waste my time. I have siblings who depend on me. If I think of my anger and only of myself, …what will they eat? What will happen to them? You have a choice. Are you going to be angry or will you endure it? I love my siblings…and nothing is ever difficult if it’s for the people for love.” –Kiko

(I love the last quote. I don’t necessarily agree with it 100% because anger brings about change for good things too. You just have to be selective with it. Also I wouldn’t agree to doing everything for people you love either. Sometimes those people will take advantage of you. So you also need to be selective in doing that.)

Scenes

There are so many scenes that I’ve enjoyed in this movie. I hope these don’t spoil the movie, but instead inspire you to watch it.

Afterthoughts

This was my first time watching a Filipino movie and I absolutely love it. Luckily Netflix has several more to indulge.

Why did they keep getting their phones stolen?
I really like Jackie’s dad’s house
It’s so beautiful!
This is a beautiful place, but scary to drive.
