The book The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society is comprised of several letters written between a writer, Juliet, and several of her friends and acquaintances. Juliet lives in London and she writes to friends all over the United Kingdom. I choose the book travel locations by how often they were mentioned and how interesting the location is.
London
London is the capital and the most populated city in England and the United Kingdom. It was founded around the Thames River by the Romans over 2 millennia. The city is one of the leading global cities with the 5th largest GDP (gross domestic product) in the world and the most visited city by international visitors. It contains the oldest underground railway network, 4 different heritage sites and many other landmarks, such as Buckingham Palace and The London Eye.
Guernsey
Guernsey is an island in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy, France. It is a self-governing British Crown dependency. The island consists of 10 parishes, which act as civil administration districts with limited powers. St. Martin’s parish (where Juliet visits) is located on the southeast side of the island. The island is known for beach resorts, such as Coco Bay. It is also Castle Cornet and the Hauteville House, the former home of French writer Victor Hugo.
Candie Gardens
A letter adressed to Juliet from a member of the literary society, Isola, writes about the first time the German soldier Invaded. Isola, and another member, Elizabeth, were visiting Candie Gardens. Candie Gardens was established in 1894 on the grounds of the Candie House. It is located in the outskirts of St. Peter Port. When there you can encounter a wide variety of plants from around the world. A statue of Queen Elizabeth stands at the top of the gardens. Another statue of Victor Hugo from 1914 can be found in the gardens. The walk to the garden is 5 minutes from the center of St. Peter Port. Admission is free and open from dawn to dusk.

Neuengamme Concentration Camp
John Booker writes to Juliet about his stay in the Neuengamme Concentration Camp for impersonating someone else. The camp is located near Hamburg, Germany. The camp ran from December 1938-May 1945 and had more than 106, 000 prisoners. Almost half of the Prisoners died. Today it’s a memorial.

Ravensbruck Concentration Camp
The members of the literary society received a letter of Elizabeth’s stay at the Ravenbruck Concentration Camp. The camp was exclusively for women. It operated from 1939-1945 located in Northern Germany. There were about 130,000 prisoners, only 15,000 survived until liberation.
