Drama Inspired Outfit: Rita

February 28, 2018 by Marissa

Every once in a while I see/read an outfit in a book, movie, or show and I really like it or am curious to copy. I decided to create this series so that I am able to recreate outfits from the characters I enjoy. Rita is the first character I will emulate. I choose her mainly because I have all the pieces already. I am actually still searching for pieces from previous characters.

I suppose this would be consider cosplaying. Cosplay is a contraction of the words costume and play. In order cosplay, one must dress up as a character from a book, movie, anime, or video game. But in my eyes, as see cosplay as going all out. Here’s a link to a woman who cosplays mostly Disney movies.

The cosplayer will add the corresponding hair and makeup to match. I see it as finding a fashion style I like and integrating it into my wardrobe…except my Rita outfit is already in my wardrobe. I have been considering doing a section like this for a while. Remember that outfit from Itazura Na Kiss Manga? I have been searching for the pieces from thrift stores for a while now. I found almost everything that I need, but I am still look for some red tights. Where in the world do I find those?

I can’t believe I almost have the outfit completed.

Anyways, so when I decided to write about Rita. I knew the outfit would be easy to put together since I already wear it. My only concern was the shoes. I have own shoes like the ones Rita wears, but I don’t wear them. They in fact collect dust and are possibly used for decoration. The only difference between what Rita wears and what I wear is the fact I don’t wear heels. I haven’t worn heels in possibly 4-5 years. I have no need. I go no place that requires me to dress incredible nice and when I do, I opt for flats. Heels are torturous.

The Outfit

Jeans, t-shirt, plaid shirt, and small heels are literally all she wears throughout the whole series. They’ve made her similar to a cartoon character, meaning that she wears the same thing always. So now I will associate this outfit with her. It’s brilliant.

Here’s my Rita inspired outfit. Very down to Earth and low key.

Here’s my Polyvore-like collage displaying all the pieces. In fact, I probably could make a Polyvore. Anyways, look at those tiny heeled boots. Rita wears tiny heeled ankle boots. Is that the proper term? Not Sure. I guess since I’m writing about fashion I have to include brands, which brands by the way make no difference to me. If I like the item, I’ll buy it. And it’s hard for me to decide what to buy when shopping sometimes. The brands are as follows:

  • Madden Girl boots
  • Old Navy Jeans
  • Black spaghetti strap shirt of no particular brand because it is worn and the tag is gone.
  • Paper Doll Black and yellow plaid quarter sleeve button-up shirt.

Wearing the Outfit

So after I gather the items and took this picture. I decided to wear the outfit all day. Not much occurred. I went to the store to pick up things to buy crepes. It took 10 minutes. It was 10 minutes of torture wearing those heels. I was in so much pair. I probably should wear them more often because my feet were screaming at me. I’m almost certain I didn’t correctly distribute my weight while walking in them. I ended chucking them afterwards and replaced them with tennis shoes. Much more my style.

The only difference I would say happened is that I thought more like Rita, so I had a bit more attitude and possibly more strength in my few minutes of wearing heels. I was also much faster in the store because I thought, “Get me outta of these things!”

Have you ever cosplay? Is there an outfit from a drama/book you like copy?
