Mother’s Day at the Dillion Nature Center

Every time we drive to my grandma’s house, we past a sign that says, “Dillon Nature Center.” And every time I say, “I wanna go there.” And finally today, my husband took me there. It was worth the trip.
Dillion Nature Center is located on 30th street in Hutchinson, KS. It’s an 100 acre wildlife sanctuary.

Here’s a map of the trails at the entrance.

We then went into the education building.  There were several interactive and informative activities.

Which one isn’t an insect? Can you guess right?

More fun activites geared towards children, but can be enjoyed by all.

After spending a good amount of time in the building, we returned outside to start our hike. These trails are easy, short, and quick. My family and I have been walking 2 miles at our usual spot, so this was a piece of cake.

Outer Loop Recreation Trail Loop
The trail we walked on was called the Outer Loop Recreation Trail Loop. The distance is .86 mile and it’s a mainly dirt and grass trail. It is also mostly shaded, so on a hot day, you’ll feel nice and cool.

I stopped to admire this plant at the beginning of our walk.

We found the pond.

Despite being filled with algae, you can see the fish and turtle swimming in the water.

There are statues to be found throughout the center.

The kids before they climbed onto the rocks.

Then there’s the children’s play area

There’s so much for the kids to do.

The trip was fun, short, and sweet. We had to leave in order to host the Mother’s Day dinner for my mom at my house.

Thank you for reading! What did you do on Mother’s Day?
