Book Inspired Recipe: Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rod Recipe aka “Cuban Cigars”

Cuba is well-known for its cigars. But for those of us that don’t smoke, is there a different option? Once upon a time for my birthday I was thinking about having a Cuban-inspired party with a live salsa band, Cuban sandwiches, and “Cuban cigars.” I made a personal Pinterest board with many things Cuban. I thought it would be neat to make candy cigars with pretzel rods, chocolate, and broken candy pieces.

The Process

My daughter was too excited about the candy cigars. Pretzels are one of her favorite snacks. Now they were to be covered in chocolate and crushed candy. This is an easy recipe to make that even the 6 year old could do it if she uses the microwave instead of a double boiler, like me.

My completed work…so yummy!

After Thoughts:

The pretzels were delicious. They tasted even better with some homemade hot cocoa. It’s something to keep our bellies warm during the cold winter.
